MCCLOUD — November 2, 2026. The Forest Service’s recreation facilities guide shows different primary operating seasons for campgrounds and picnic areas around McCloud, which matters as winter approaches.
Not all sites share the same season
The guide lists Harris Spring, Algoma and Trout Creek with dates ending October 31, while some popular sites including Fowlers Campground and Cattle Camp have primary seasons extending toward mid-November. These are planning dates, not guaranteed opening conditions.
What drives winter closures
Snow, freezing temperatures, fire damage and road conditions can interrupt access before or after a published seasonal date. Sanitation, drinking water and staff may not be available even when a road is passable.
Confirm before traveling
Check the Shasta–Trinity National Forest’s alerts and campground listing, then ask the McCloud Ranger Station at 530-964-2184 about the specific site, fees and access. Do not rely on navigation apps to route an RV onto an unsafe forest road.
