MCCLOUD — November 2, 2026. The U.S. Forest Service’s McCloud Area Recreation Guide lists developed campgrounds along the river and warns that dispersed camping is not permitted on the McCloud River Loop.
Which campgrounds the guide lists
The agency describes Fowlers Campground, Cattle Camp, Ah-Di-Na and other forest sites with different approaches, capacities and primary-use seasons. Many locations have seasonal windows rather than year-round access.
Two different camping arrangements
The recreation guide describes a fourteen-day maximum stay at developed campgrounds. Dispersed camping elsewhere in the national forest can have different limits and site restrictions; visitors must not assume an unmarked turnout is a legal campsite.
Check the current order
The national forest has issued area-specific orders concerning dispersed camping along the McCloud River Loop. Forest orders may supersede a general recreation brochure. Review the active regulations, wildfire restrictions and road access before leaving home.
